A popular 1960s hit by Sonny & Cher was titled ‘The Beat Goes On’, whilst about Penzance & Newlyn RFC at the now end of the season it is the heartbeat of cherished volunteers that helps required works to continue.
For the volunteer ground staff about the club’s Mennaye Field and Mennaye Nurseries grounds, there is much often unseen work that is performed. It has been thus, of course, for decades, with many stalwart names that can be recalled.
That others have stepped forward in recent years to do their bit is of great help. Also, of course, it can be satisfying and rewarding for the individuals concerned.
No need to mention names but displayed are just a few examples of images I have taken in the past couple of weeks showing certain volunteers at work. Of many ‘jobs’ undertaken, included has been grass cutting, weeding, painting, irrigation, and picking up rubbish. Also, importantly, a paid for annual necessity has seen the fields reseeded by W. R. Sandow limited.
